I’m sure you’ve seen it lurking around your Trade chat, all the time. So why not get one of your own?
Thunderfury is a level 60 legendary one-handed sword with no class restrictions (i.e. if you can use a one-handed sword, you can use this). It’s made with materials and a couple of rare drops from Molten Core, an easily soloable level 60 raid.
Note that as this requires boss drops, you can only run it once per week. Don’t expect to have this done quickly. You do get Hydraxian Warlords reputation while running the raid though, so it’s not a total waste even if you don’t get your drops.
A’ight, sick.
So here’s what you do:
- Head on over to Molten Core. This is in Blackrock Mountain, between the Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge. Sounds like a lovely place. You don’t need to be in a raid group to enter. Here’s a pretty good explanation of how to get inside.
- There are two “Bindings” that drop with a 4% rate which are the main things you’ll need. Garr drops the right binding, Baron Geddon the left. These are the guys you’ll be farming weekly until you have both. Red circles on the map below are where you’ll find them.
- As soon as you have either binding, you can go pick up this quest.
- Now the fun part. Keep going back weekly until you have the other binding. Sometime do the whole raid and kill Ragnaros also, who’ll drop a quest item for you (100% rate if you’re on the quest). Get a hold of 10x [Enchanted Elementium Bar] (start this early, mats can be hard to find).
- Once you’ve got everything, take a good long second to consider why you even bother playing this game and why it’s taken you months for these pixels.
- Follow the quest chain from step 3. This is a lot of talking to people and killing a mob that was once-upon-a-time challenging.
- Run around Org naked with your pretty new sword.

Finally. The difficulty gap between Act III and Act IV is wider than the others but I enjoyed the challenge. Had to rethink my setup, especially without a follower, and now its on to Nightmare.
